Exception Automation
Updated over a year ago

We have introduced the ability for shippers to create automated rules to help streamline workflows and reduce time spent reviewing rebuttals.

There are three types of automation rules available:

  1. Automatically Forgive an Exception upon Ingestion

  2. Automatically Accept a Rebuttal Submitted by a Carrier

  3. Automatically Assign a Rebuttal to a Shipper User

Here are some example scenarios for when a rule may be helpful:

  • Automatically forgiving shipments that were over tendered for a specific location

  • Automatically forgive exceptions on a specific lane that regularly has production delays

  • Automatically accept all rebuttals for unsafe weather conditions

  • Automatically assign all rebuttals for Walmart to a specific shipper user

To create a new rule for automation, navigate to Your Settings, then click on Automation in the left-hand column. From there, select the Add new rule button.

When you create a new rule you must add a rule name, and a start date. You then can specify an end date (for example, you want to automatically forgive exceptions for a winter storm that lasted two days) or choose no end date (if selected, the rule will persist in perpetuity until you choose to disable it).

Then you need to create the conditions and resulting actions for the rule. This works like an if this, then that statement.

For example, if you want to create a rule to forgive exceptions for a specific lane (say Denver, CO to Bakersfield, CA) that frequently has production delays, you would create the following conditions and actions:

To save the rule, select the Preview Rule button, then click Create rule.

The Automation table has three tabs: Current, Scheduled, and Expired.

  • The Current tab lists all rules with a Start Date that has already begun.

  • The Scheduled tab lists all rules with a Start Date that has not yet passed.

  • The Expired tab lists all rules where the End Date has been passed.

The Automation table lists several columns, including rule Status (rules can either be Live or Disabled), Created By, Last Updated By, Impacted Exceptions, and End Date.

To take an action on a rule, click the ellipsis at the far right of the row. Actions available include Preview rule, Edit rule, See history, Duplicate rule, and Disable OR Re-enable rule.
